HPHA Board Members

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) Board of Directors is comprised of dedicated volunteers that, in addition to attending monthly Board of Directors meetings, participate as members of our committees, focussing on specific areas of the hospital's activities.

Per theHPHA Administrative & Professional Staff By-laws , the Board for the Alliance and each of the corporations consists of Eleven (11) elected Directors & six (9) non-voting ex-officio Directors.

Ron Lavoie, Board Chair
- Appointed: 2016
- Director from the catchment area served by Seaforth Community Hospital

Ron has provided volunteer support for Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance - Seaforth Community Hospital Site since September 2000. Working together with hospital executives, healthcare professionals and many volunteer colleagues has provided Ron with a tremendous opportunity to learn from their valued expertise and help him support Seaforth's local rural community hospital.

After more than 35 years, Ron retired from his career with Manulife Financial - Corporate Real Estate Division, spending the last 15 years as Leasing Manager responsible for Canadian Division Real Estate lease negotiations and management of projects across Canada. Ron has also played a key role, making a valuable contribution in several merger/acquisition initiatives.

Ron is currently the Chair of the Seaforth Community Hospital Foundation and Trustee/Operations and Property Management of Seaforth Community Hospital Trust.

OROURKE

Kerri Ann O'Rourke, Vice Chair
- Appointed: 2017
- Director from the catchment area served by Seaforth Community Hospital

Kerri Ann was born and raised in the Ottawa Valley. Together with her husband they operate a trucking company north of Dublin, shipping agricultural commodities and large equipment throughout Southwestern Ontario.

Kerri Ann had a 20+ year career in municipal administration, working as the Municipal Clerk for the Township of Perth East and County of Perth. She continues to do short contracts and projects for local municipalities.

She is a proud volunteer for the Seaforth Junior Broomball League, supporting and encouraging a resurgence of interest in a local heritage sport. Kerri Ann became a member of the Ausable Bayfield Maitland Valley Source Protection Committee in the spring of 2015.

Kerri Ann has been a member of the Seaforth Local Advisory Committee since 2009 and is currently the Chair. She has found being a member of the HPHA Board Governance & Stakeholder Relations and Quality Committees a rewarding and educational experience.

Alblas 1

Jack Alblas, Treasurer
- Appointed: 2017
- Director from the City of Stratford

Jack is an Information Technology / Management Professional with over 35 years IT and business experience in the financial and manufacturing industries. He has proven experience in management of large strategic initiatives and working in complex environments. Jack worked 10 years with IBM Canada's Business Consulting Services and Strategic Outsourcing groups, including: directing and managing mergers and acquisition; managing a team of IBM professionals in the design, development and implementation of new technology solutions for Financial Institutions and Canadian Insurance companies. From 2008 - 2013 Jack worked at Scotiabank as Director, IT&S, directing and managing several technology departments. Upon retiring from Scotiabank, Jack established his IT Consulting Company, providing leadership for IT professionals in the design, development and implementation of technology solutions / services for a large Canadian Insurance company.

Jack has a strong commitment to our community signified by his many years of volunteer support in organizations such as: Board member of the United Way Perth Huron for 4 years, including Chair of the Board for two years; Board member of Family Services Perth Huron for 5 years; and, member of Stratford General Hospital Local Advisory Committee for 5 years, including Chair for the last two years.

Wolfe

John Wolfe, Board Chair
- Appointed: 2011
- Director from the City of Stratford

John has been involved in the Stratford Community for over 20 years, serving on mny not-for-profit boards and volunteering for many organizations.

President of a regional Real Estate Brokerage John has a strong background in finance and corporate structure as well as Human Resources.

John is a strong advocate for a Health Care System which not only provides excellent care but also shows a commitment to a strong community.

Gary Austin

Gary Austin
- Appointed: 2019
- Regional Director

Dr. Gary Austin brings diverse past experience to the Board as a retired therapist and psychologist. He also has past experience as a community volunteer using social science design to direct a research project to develop a new model of community education and secured a new funding base.

Since retirement, as a volunteer, he has sat on and/or chaired various boards. Serving as president for a community theatre board, he wrote successful grants to improve the technical and audience facilities, among other activities. For the local public library, which he chaired, he led the development of its first strategic plan and a relationship model with the local council. He sat, as a member, on the board of a Family Service for four years.

Gary looks forward to being a board member of HPHA in these challenging times.


Dick Burgess

Dick Burgess

- Director from the catchment area served by Clinton Public Hospital

Dick has lived in Huron County for over 50 years. He was a teacher of English, French,  and Film Arts at Seaforth District High School for over 33 years. He has owned and managed his family farm for 35 years.

In retirement, Dick has made a strong commitment to serve his community in healthcare as a volunteer and Board member for over 20 years. He has been active as a volunteer and a Board member of the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance, including three years as Board Chair; volunteer and Board member of Huron Hospice; volunteer and Board member for the Canadian Mental Health Association for Huron and Perth.

Dick brings extensive training and experience in Board governance to the HPHA Board.

Hearn-final

Steve Hearn
- Appointed: 2016
- Director from the catchment area served by St. Marys Memorial Hospital

Steve is a veteran of sales and senior sales management who has worked in Canadian Multi-Nationals during his career. His experience includes Information Technology and Business Process. He worked closely with a number of hospitals in Southwestern Ontario providing systematic process improvements enabling him to glean insights into health care.

Steve was a Foundation Board member of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Guelph and has been working with the St. Marys Memorial Hospital Foundation over the past year.

Hutton


Barry Hutton
Appointed: 2019
- Director from the catchment area served by Clinton Public Hospital

Barry was born in Avoncrest Hospital in Stratford. He is a retired human resources professional with experience in labour negotiations, labour dispute resolution, risk management, loss prevention and insurance. 

Barry is a Mason as a member of Doric Corinthian Lodge No. 569, Lakeside, and Secretary of Britannia Lodge No 170, Seaforth. In 2002, he was appointed to the Board of General Purposes, Grand Lodge of Canada, in the Province of Ontario, and served on a number of committees until his retirement from the board in 2012. One special involvement was Vice-Chair of the Masonic Foundation of Ontario Millennium project, Help-2-Hear, raising over $1,000,000 to fund cochlear implants in children.

Barry serves on the finance committee of Egmondville United Church as well as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Egmondville Cemetery.  He is also an active volunteer at the Blyth Centre for the Arts and assists with various Seaforth community events.

Joe Looby

Joe Looby

- Regional Director


Joe is a seasoned business leader with over 25 years of experience with expertise in finance, business management, strategic planning, construction delivery and project management.

His experience includes: owning and operating Looby Construction, a heavy civil construction firm operating throughout Ontario until its sale to EllisDon in 2011; Senior Vice President and Area Manager for Looby/EllisDon from 2011 to 2016; and currently is President of 213 Division Inc., an Investment Management and Consulting company.

Joe is a past director for the Ontario Road Builders Association (ORBA); is a mentor with Futurpreneur Canada, which provides business mentorship and guidance to young entrepreneurs; and is a member of the Dublin and District Lions Club.


Joe is a graduate of Queen’s University and is a Chartered Investment Manager (CIM).

Ross Jones-website

Kim Ross Jones
- Appointed: 2016
- Director from the catchment area served by St. Marys Memorial Hospital

Kim has over 10 years’ experience in the healthcare field, primarily in the area of public health. In her previous position as a Senior Public Health Promoter at the Huron County Health Unit, she has had extensive experience in community development, strategic planning and priority setting, stakeholder engagement, program evaluation and workplace health. She has also collaborated with numerous community partners to identify community health needs and to design and implement appropriate health promotion strategies for target audiences. Kim's experience in public health and her Masters of Health Science Degree in Health Promotion provide her with an in-depth understanding of the healthcare system, our community's healthcare needs, as well as local healthcare partners.

Kim has a strong commitment to her community's well-being. She is a long-time resident of the St. Marys area, where she now is proudly raising her family.

Spevack

Rena Spevack
- Appointed: 2008
- Director from the City of Stratford

Rena is a veterinarian who retired following 32 years with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. She was elected to the HPHA Board of Directors in 2008 and currently sits on the Board’s Quality Committee and the Stratford Local Advisory Committee. Rena is an active volunteer with the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Youth Opportunity Fund, the YMCA, the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, the Terry Fox Run and the Rotary Club of Stratford. Rena enjoys jogging, hiking, walking, cycling and dragon boating.
