Research has found that regular physical activity appears as effective as psychotherapy for treating mild to moderate depression. Therapists also report that patients who exercise regularly simply feel better and are less likely to overeat or abuse alcohol and drugs. Source: CMHA

Psychiatry

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance Mental Health Program is experiencing an acute shortage of psychiatrists and we are striving to improve access and efficiency of care in the department while more psychiatrists are recruited.

Urgent referrals should be made by calling the Huron Perth Helpline and Crisis Response team at 1-888-829-7484

  • Wait-time to access a non-urgent outpatient psychiatric consultation for individuals 18 years and older is currently estimated to be more than 12 months.
  • Physician referral is required for consultation in psychiatry.  Referrals for non-urgent access to mental health services should be made by using the form below.  Referred individuals will initially meet with an intake worker to determine their needs and will be referred to the appropriate mental health resources and/or psychiatric consultation, if needed.
