HPHA Breast Assessment Centre - Stratford Site

Stratford General Hospital has had an Ontario Breast Screening Program since October, 1999.  October 17th, 2004, we became a designated Breast Assessment Centre. This expanded service has brought breast-related disciplines together in a single location with a coordinated approach to breast assessment.

For patients, this means better coordination of care during a very stressful time. For referring physicians, this means access to all services needed to work up a breast problem for a patient.

A central goal is patient convenience with collaboration among care providers resulting in a timely follow up of a concern and a contact person to help guide the patient and her family through the process. Our goal is to make every woman’s breast health care experience as smooth as possible.

Located in the West building, 2nd floor, away from the busy X-ray department, the Breast Centre offers a calm, private, comfortable setting

staffed with skilled personnel.

Highlights of the services offered are:

  • Screening and diagnostic mammography
  • Ontario Breast Screening Program for women over 50
  • CAR accredited mammography machine
  • Breast designated ultrasound room adjacent to mammography room
  • Specially trained nurse examiner
  • Stereotactic and ultrasound guided core biopsies
  • Fine needle aspirations
  • Resource material on breast health, diseases and treatments

These services are provided with a team approach by dedicated personnel. They include a Radiologist, Surgeon, Pathologist, Sonographers, Mammographers, Nurse Examiner and Clerical staff that strive to make a difference in providing improved service for women in this area. Multidisciplinary Breast Rounds are held regularly to discuss management of findings and share in the latest approaches in breast treatment.

Deb Moon, Nurse Coordinator and Irene Simons, Mammography Technologist Coordinator, keep the physicians aware of their patients progress and results and assist them to make a surgical referral if necessary. They offer support to the woman and her family to guide her through her appointments. Deb and Irene are available to answer questions, listen to concerns and help direct the patient to any other  support services she may need.  They can be reached at 272-8210 ext.2346.
