Infection Control & Occupational Health & Safety

Infection Control

To prevent and control the spread of infections the following services are provided:

  • Surveillance of hospital acquired infections
  • Increased awareness and tracking of patients with potential or confirmed C-difficile or Antibiotic Resistant Organisms (eg MRSA, VRE)
  • Isolation of patients identified with confirmed or potential infections
  • Public Patient Safety Reporting to Ministry of Health and Long Term Care
  • On going education for staff, physicians and volunteers
  • Education for patients, families and visitors
  • Maintain policies and procedures
  • Maintaining standards of Infection Control during construction, renovation or routine maintenance
  • Hand Hygiene Program

Occupational Health & Safety

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance Occupational Health, Workplace Safety, Infection Prevention and Control Department is committed to health and safety and prevention and control of infections for the well-being of our healthcare workers, patients and visitors, in a manner that demonstrates a commitment to caring, respect, effective utilization of recourses and continuous improvement. We believe that it is the responsibility of each person working in the hospital to work safely and practice good infection control.

Occupational Health

To promote occupational health and wellness the following services are provided:

  • Primary care including treatment of workplace injuries
  • Health counseling and referrals
  • Return to work program
  • Communicable disease surveillance and immunization
  • Pre placement interviews for staff, contract workers, students and volunteers
  • Administer treatment protocols according to medical directives
  • Workplace Wellness
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
