The District Stroke Centre is located at Stratford General Hospital site and provides access to stroke care for residents of both Huron and Perth Counties.
The Stratford General Hospital site offers specialized services for stroke survivors and was Designated as a District Stroke Centre since the Stratford Site offers specializes services such as:
- Protocols for the administration of tPA, a clot busting drug for stroke as well as an Emergency Medical Services Destination protocol are in place for patients that experience an ischemic stroke and qualify for this therapy within a 3.5 hour window.
- A Stroke Prevention Clinic for individuals who have experienced a Transient Ischemic Attack provides access to physicians with stroke expertise and to early diagnostic tests (e.g. lab and medical imaging).
- Nurse Clinicians provide consultation and education to patients, families and the health care team regarding patients admitted to hospital following a stroke.
- The Integrated Stroke Unit provides nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech and language pathology services by health care professionals with expertise in the care and recovery of stroke survivors.
Stroke Prevention Clinic
Outpatient clinic for individuals who have had a recent TIA (transient ischemic attack) or stroke. Physician referral is required.
Location: The Stroke Prevention Clinic is located in the West Building on the 2nd Floor.
Hours of Operation: Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
