Research has found that regular physical activity appears as effective as psychotherapy for treating mild to moderate depression. Therapists also report that patients who exercise regularly simply feel better and are less likely to overeat or abuse alcohol and drugs. Source: CMHA

Detailed information on services and supports for caregivers

On April 03, Connecting the Dots for Caregivers officially launched http://caregivershuronperth.ca, a website of resources for caregivers and healthcare providers in Huron and Perth counties. The site was developed by the project’s co-design teams to help provide easier access to information, tools and resources online, anytime. Connecting the Dots heard loud and clear that a website like this will help caregivers and healthcare providers access the resources they need to make their role easier and improve the caregiver journey. The site contains a detailed listing of resources including:

  • Programs, services and supports for patients and clients
  • Programs, services and supports for caregivers
  • A detailed list of local and regional events
  • Stories and tips for caregivers, by caregivers
  • Other Connecting the Dots resources like the Time to Talk Toolkit
  • A quick reference list of who you can call for support
  • Step-by-step “how to use the website” video, with examples

Please take a few moments to review the website and share it with anyone who might need help to find the supports they need. Stay tuned for a printed handout/guide that will be available soon.

An in-person social network for caregivers by caregivers
**Please note that the Caregiver Connection Group will not meet on Monday, April 22 because of the Easter holiday. The next meeting will be Monday, May 13 at the Stratford Library, 19 St. Andrew St.**

These groups will meet twice a month at the libraries in Stratford and Brussels, and give caregivers an opportunity to connect with other caregivers. Come as you are for a coffee, snack and conversation!

For more information call Huron Perth Community Support Services Network at 1-844-428-4800.
