The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) is committed to building strong and successful relationships with our academic partners.

We are proud of the many hands-on learning opportunities available for students from many disciplines at our hospital sites.

Student learning opportunities include cooperative placements for:

High School Students

High school students interested in placements should contact their school co-op teacher directly. Students must be attending a school in the Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board or the Avon Maitland District School Board to be considered for placement.

Students must meet pre-placement requirements before starting with HPHA. These requirements include:

  • Reviewing and acknowledging HPHA’s Privacy & Confidentiality Agreement
  • Meeting immunization requirements
  • Completing required training / learning modules
  • Attending a General Orientation

Post-Secondary Students

HPHA welcomes all student educational placement inquiries. The formal request for an education placement must be sent to Training & Development by your educational institution with the following information:
  • School and Program Name
  • School program/placement coordinator name and contact information
  • Exact timeframe for placement
  • Desired placement at HPHA

Students must meet pre-placement requirements before starting with HPHA. These requirements include:

  • Reviewing and acknowledging HPHA’s Privacy & Confidentiality Agreement and Acceptable Use of Computers Policy
  • Meeting immunization requirements
  • Providing proof of current N95 Mask Fit
  • Providing a current vulnerable sector check
  • Completing required training / learning modules
  • Attending a General Orientation
Students who have been confirmed for placement can complete our Student Welcome Package.

Enhanced Extern Program

  • Externs are clinical learners who are employed as unregulated care providers to work under the supervision of regulated care providers. 
  • Each organization is required to determine how externs can be incorporated appropriately to best support workflow and patient management.
  • Types of eligible clinical learners includes those in nursing, respiratory therapy, medicine, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and paramedic programs, or recent Canadian medical graduates awaiting start of residency.
