The Key Ingredient in Delivering Nutritional Excellence
October 02, 2023
Our Nutrition & Food Services (NFS) team is the key ingredient in the delivery of nutritional excellence! Responsible for preparing and serving approximately 16,000 patient meal trays and 5,000 staff and visitor meals each month, this team plays an essential role in the day-to-day operations of our hospital sites and they are an integral part of a patient's recovery.
The NFS team are a well-educated group that provide a quality service according to standardized food safety practices. Some of the duties this team is responsible for include:
- Purchasing/receiving food service supplies and maintaining all inventory.
- Reading diet orders that can include allergies, intolerances, restrictions, texture modifications and nutritional supplements.
- Preparing meals with care and safe food handling practices.
- Transporting meals from the kitchen to all patient care units.
- Providing excellent customer service in our hospital cafes.
- Washing all dishes used at each meal.
- Keeping the food service areas sanitized and clean.
The food prepared and served by our NFS team can help heal a person’s body and improve their mental outlook. It can bring comfort to a family member worried about a loved one. The HPHA team also knows the power the popular chicken finger meal has to help them recharge during a busy day!
Healthcare Food Services Workers Week is celebrated October 2 to 6. Let’s take a moment to recognize our exceptional NFS team!
