Child Psychiatrist – Outpatient Mental Health Program

Job Description:

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance’s Outpatient Mental Health Program located in Stratford, ON offers a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment where psychiatrists work alongside social workers and nurses. As a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, you will contribute to a team committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care.

Your role will include:

  • Diagnostic clarification
  • Pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy
  • Collaborative care planning
  • Participation in quality improvement initiatives
  • Opportunities for teaching and scholarly work, with financial incentives available

As a member of our team, you will work closely with our adult psychiatry team and our various inpatient and outpatient mental health programs. Although your speciality will be supporting our Child/Adolescent population, you will be well supported by our adult psychiatry team and our community partners. We also have a dedicated child/adolescent clinician that will support (MSW) who will support your clients throughout their journey including indicate assessments and referrals to other providers for service. 

Office space, including administrative support is provided at no cost. Psychiatrists wishing to provide on call and/or inpatient coverage will have opportunity to do so at Stratford General Hospital, although is not a requirement of this position. Stratford General Hospital is a Schedule 1 Mental Health Facility with a 15 bed adult inpatient unit (occupancy for 16+ on the unit). The unit in managed by 3 Psychiatrists who work closely with their Hospitalist colleagues to assist with management of any medical issues. 

HPHA maintains a strong partnership with the Huron Perth Centre for Children and Youth, an accredited, community-based mental health centre and the Lead Agency for child and youth mental health services in Huron and Perth counties. This partnership enhances service integration and continuity of care for children, youth, and families across the region.

Our Huron Perth Mental Health and Addictions Alliance involves all key partners to a shared table to identify and support community need including a recent move to mapping our work from a Stepped Care Model/ approach. We have funding and program opportunities to continue to build on our mental health outpatient and inpatient services here, and we would welcome a child/adolescent psychiatrist to support expanding our models and work to best support our local population. About our Hospitals: 

HPHA is an Alliance of four hospitals located in Southwestern Ontario, including Clinton Public, Seaforth Community, St Marys Memorial, and Stratford General. 

Stratford General Hospital is 120 bed hospital and the largest hospital in the HPHA. It is the regional referral centre for Huron and Perth County residents, offering a broad range of medical and surgical inpatient services including critical care and neo-natal intensive care, supported with internists, and surgical specialists such as ENT, ophthalmology, plastics, urology, general surgery and orthopedics. The Stratford site also provides mental health, maternal child, complex continuing care and rehabilitation inpatient services. We are a schedule 1 facility and have a 15 bed inpatient unit supported by 3 full time psychiatrists (occupancy for 16+ on the unit).
